We wrote this song in January after receiving a call during practice from Michael's partner, who had been followed when walking home from the train station. ‘Don’t Stab Me’ details the harassment female identifying and non-binary people have to deal with while taking public transport, both on a micro level of aggression: ‘don’t tell me to close my legs, don’t tell me I have to shave’, the way society normalises controlling women and non-binary people, and also the macro level: of escalation of threats that lead to the normalisation of violence (and murder) against women and non-binary people, ‘You’re not that hot anyway, bitch’ ‘I’m gonna stab you’.

We recorded it a month ago and planned to release it after releasing our video for Yarraville Mums, but have decided to put it out now as it adds to the important conversation that needs to continue about unaddressed male violence.

I refuse to lose my freedom to the normalisation of violence perpetrated by men.

We have donated $50 from the shit fund and will be donating all money made from sales of the song until the end of July to women’s health west (whwest.org.au) an organization which promotes women’s health, safety and wellbeing across three areas: sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and prevention of violence and discrimination.
